Sathya Sai Institute in Bangkok, Thailand

The Institute of Sathya Sai Education was registered on April 24, 1998 under the Ministry of Education of Thailand.

The Institute Building located at the Sathya Sai School Campus in Lapburi Province, North-East of Bangkok, was officially opened on May 17, 1998.

Aims and Work of the Institute:

To propagate the ideals of Sathya Sai Education in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities.
- Holistic approach to knowledge.
- Nurturing awareness of life skills, health and environment.
- To produce new textbooks and materials for teachers as well as to continually study and improve on the techniques, methodology, course content and lesson plans.
- The Institute provides the facilities for doing research on all aspects of values education.
- To help in the establishment of Sathya Sai Schools around the world.
- To facilitate Sathya Sai Institute and School activities around the world.
- To conduct teacher training seminars and Workshops both nationally and internationally.

Courses:

Diploma Course (2 and 1/2 months)

The Institute runs two Diploma Courses a year. The first is from early January – mid - March and the second is from mid-May – early August.

The Content of the Diploma Course includes the lectures, workshops and discussions on the following subjects:

- Sathya Sai Educare
- The five Human Values and Human Excellence
- Teaching Methodologies
- Integral Teaching
- Innovations in Traditional Teaching Strategies
- The Science of Thought
- Child psychology
- Children’s Moral development
- Character Development
- The Teacher’s Role and Responsibility
- Education and Management
- Presentation skills
- Research in Education
- Spiritual practice
- Guidelines for setting up and managing a Sathya Sai School
- SAI 2000 – Standards for Sathya Sai Schools

Guest lectures are also invited to present some topical issues related to values education.

On completion of the course, students become qualified teachers and trainers of SSEHV. They will also learn how to set up and manage a Sathya Sai School and adopt existing schools. The Institute is situated on the Sathya Sai School Campus and so this provides direct experience with the children. Diploma students are expected to join the children for daily prayers and mediation, meal times, flag hoisting and other scheduled activities. Diploma students having particular talents are encouraged to arrange clubs or special classes such as art, music, drama, dance or languages. Students attend lectures during weekends and special workshops and study circles during the week.

Advanced Diploma Courses: (1 year starting in May)

This is an extension of the Diploma Course. It is designed for students who wish to gain more teaching experience and conduct research. Each student is expected to present an original thesis on some aspect of values education.

Requirements and Qualifications for Diploma Students

All applicants must have the following qualifications:

- They must have completed secondary or high school education, and
- They must have had teaching experience for a minimum of one year or been involved in work with children or youths, or
- Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree or higher and be interested in doing one of the following:
- Becoming a teacher
- Setting up or managing a school
- Working with children or adolescents

Application

Applicants should contact the ISSE office for all the details. Once they have provided all the required documents their application will be considered.

The following are the requirements:

- State reasons for the application
- Bio-data and 6 recent photographs (Passport size)
- A letter of endorsement from the Regional Coordinator of Sathya Sai Organization (if applicable)
- High school Certificate or Certificate of Completion of Secondary School or highest Degree Certificate
- A copy of the first two pages of passport or relevant pages.
- The cost for board and lodging for the Diploma course is US$ 350. Advanced Diploma students pay US$ weekly.

Visa to study in Thailand

The Institute will issue a letter of admission, which can be used to obtain a visa at a Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Thai Consulate in your country. The visa must be of the type: Non-immigrant “ED”. This will allow a student to come and study for a period of 3 or 5 months from the date of entry. The grant stay can then be extended if necessary.

Facilities for Students:
- The Institute Building provides accommodation for three or four students in each room with built-in bathrooms. There is a communal kitchen for the students’ convenience.
- Lecture Hall where all the workshops and some of the lectures are held. It is also be used for prayers and meditation.
- An air-conditioned Conference room where most of the lectures are held and students may study or prepare their lessons.
- Library and computer facilities are also available.
- Vegetarian Thai food is provided three times daily plus two breaks.
- Laundry service is provided at the school, which is covered in the cost of boarding.
- Institute van is provided for transportation within the school and weekly visits to the nearby town in Lam Narai. A mobile phone is provided for the students, which they are responsible to pay according to the calls made.
